Experts from Provincial Academy of agricultural sciences have made new progress in rice quality and high temperature tolerance

Recently, the research team of crop quality genetic improvement led by Zhu Ying, researcher of the National Key Laboratory of Virology and Biotechnology of the Provincial Academy of Agricultural Sciences and the Ministry of agriculture, has made important progress in the research of high-temperature and high-quality rice. The research paper "high" was written by Dr. Xu Heng as the first author and Zhu Ying as the corresponding author Temperature inhibits the acquisition of storage materials by inducing alternative spreading of osbzip58 during filling stage in rice was published in plant cell & environment, the top journal of plant science, with an impact factor of 5.624 in 2018.
High temperature during grain filling can inhibit the accumulation of storage materials (such as starch, protein, lipid, etc.) in rice, which leads to the deterioration of rice quality, but the molecular mechanism is unclear. The team led by Zhu Ying found a key transcription factor, osbzip58, which regulates the accumulation of storage materials under high temperature. The variable cutting of this gene is closely related to the tolerance to high temperature during grouting. The results will be helpful to further understand the regulation mechanism of rice storage material accumulation under high temperature, and provide theoretical basis and genetic resources for cultivating high-quality rice varieties with high adaptability under the condition of global warming.
