In order to achieve long-term stable operation of wind turbine blades, it is necessary to apply protective coatings on the blades to ensure that they have excellent weather resistance, wear resistance, and anti fouling properties. The article introduces the research progress of various synthetic polymer resin materials in the field of wind turbine blade protection, including polyurethane, which is the most widely used and has comprehensive performance, fluoropolymers with excellent weather resistance and low surface energy, and acrylic resins with good adhesion and strong adhesion ability. These polymers are prepared as single or multiple layers of protective coatings in the form of a single component or composite of several materials, in order to provide excellent protective performance for blade coatings.

Wind energy, as a clean and renewable energy source, has attracted increasing attention from countries around the world. The effective utilization of wind energy can help achieve diversified energy structure and reduce environmental pollution. As of the end of 2009, China's wind power grid connection reached 16.13 million kW, a year-on-year increase of 92%. The rapid expansion of the wind power generation market is bound to drive the rapid growth of demand for related equipment, and ensuring the quality of these equipment is particularly important for promoting the development of wind power.

As an important component of wind turbines, wind turbine blades are the key to ensuring their long-term and stable operation in harsh environments. The length of the wind turbine blade can reach 60m, and the lightning protection work of the blade has been reported in many literatures. On the other hand, because the manufacturing materials of the wind turbine blade, such as epoxy resin glass fiber reinforced plastic, are difficult to keep intact after being attacked by sand dust, ultraviolet light and rainstorm all the year round, it is necessary to apply protective coatings on the blade surface to improve the service life of the blade, reduce or even achieve zero maintenance of the blade in more than 20 years.

This article mainly introduces several polymer resins used as protective coating materials for wind turbine blades, such as polyurethane, fluorine resin, acrylic resin, etc., and prospects their research direction and development.

The coating for wind turbine blades needs to withstand the high and low temperature changes of sunlight, day, night, winter, and summer. During high-speed operation, it will be severely washed by wind, sand, rain, and snow. In addition, a large amount of sand, stones The adhesion of water droplets can seriously affect their aerodynamic performance and reduce the output power of the generator set [5]. As a coating for wind turbine blades, the required properties mainly include weather resistance, wear resistance, excellent adhesion, chemical resistance, etc. Specific technical indicators such as adhesion greater than 5MPa, natural surface drying time less than 8h, and mass loss less than 20mg/500g after 500 revolutions of wear resistance test.

At present, polyurethane is the main protective coating material used internationally for wind turbine blades, mainly consisting of solvent based polyurethane primer and solvent based polyurethane topcoat, with good performance and moderate price. In 2010, PPG Company in the United States launched an advanced film type HSP-7401 corrosion-resistant and weather resistant high-performance polyurethane primer and AUE-5000 polyurethane topcoat system, further promoting the application of polyurethane in blade coatings. In recent years, the use of fluorinated polymers, acrylic resins, and other supporting materials to prepare wind turbine blade coatings has also emerged to enhance the overall performance of coatings.
