Process performance of high-temperature resistant powder coatings

Hits: 530 img

The formula composition of powder coatings is mainly as follows: resin and its curing agent, which are the foundation of coating film formation; Additives used to improve the appearance or various properties of coatings; Pigments, imparting covering power and color to coatings; Fillers mainly serve as physical reinforcement.

Organic silicone resin is the preferred main resin for high-temperature resistant powder coatings due to its high bond energy, which endows it with high oxidation stability due to its silicon oxygen bond as the main chain.

The pigment and filler are the key factors affecting the performance of high-temperature resistant coatings. The filler should be selected with high stability and can react with the siloxane functional groups of organic silicone resin. Therefore, silicate fillers are the preferred choice, such as mica powder and silicon micro powder. Another type of material is silicate, which is mainly because its phosphate radical can react with metals, ensuring the adhesion between the coating and the substrate.

In terms of pigments, titanium dioxide powder can be used for white, and colors such as iron oxide black, iron manganese black, red, yellow, and blue can be used for black. It is recommended to use wrapped products, and the overall formula ensures that heavy metals do not exceed the standard.

The production process of high-temperature resistant powder coatings is not significantly different from ordinary products, and the process parameters that need to be controlled are mainly in the melting extrusion stage.

Due to the low softening point of organic silicone resin, it is necessary to control the appropriate extruder temperature to ensure the uniformity of mixing during the melt extrusion stage.

During the crushing stage, it is necessary to ensure that the particle size distribution is as narrow as possible, as the coating of high-temperature resistant powder coatings will expand to a certain extent when heated. The better the uniformity inside the coating, the lower the possibility of damage caused by expansion.

High temperature resistant powder coatings, as functional coatings, mainly focus on their high temperature resistance performance. Two methods are used to test the high temperature resistance performance.

One is to determine the temperature test, which uses a muffle furnace to test the surface effect and adhesion of the test board after being heated for a certain period of time.

The second is practical application testing, where the coating is applied to the applied workpiece and tested for a certain amount of time in the actual application environment.
