Preparation of magnesium silicon ceramic fibers by sol-gel method

Hits: 952 img

Magnesium silicon ceramic fiber is a new type of refractory ceramic fiber. Because the traditional aluminum silicate ceramic fiber is recognized as carcinogen by the International Association for cancer research, the alkaline earth silicate ceramic fiber represented by magnesium silicon system, with its excellent biological solubility and high temperature insulation performance, has been widely concerned by researchers. However, there are also some problems in the preparation of MgSi ceramic fiber, such as the high melting temperature required in the preparation process and the difficulty in controlling the fiber forming process, which limit its application in the field of high temperature insulation. Although the preparation process of MgSi ceramic fiber can be improved and the crystallization of the fiber can be inhibited by the introduction of additives, the biological solubility of the fiber is decreased.

Sol-gel method was used to prepare different kinds of sol. After aging, different ceramic fibers with different mg / Si ratios were prepared. The effects of acid silicon ratio, water silicon ratio, magnesium silicon ratio and sintering temperature on the fiber formation and structure evolution of sol were studied. The results show that increasing the content of silica tends to form a continuous network in the structure, which is conducive to improving the stability of fiber formation and the crystallization temperature of the fiber; increasing the ratio of magnesium to silicon leads to the poor fibrillation of the sol; at the same time, the change of composition does not change the crystallization type of the fiber.
