Michigan recently filed a lawsuit against 17 defendants for PFAS pollution, accusing the companies of "deliberately" covering up chemical hazards.

On the afternoon of January 14, U.S. attorney general Nasser announced that the state would for the first time impose corresponding legal sanctions on manufacturers such as 3M and DuPont, requiring the defendant company to take effective measures to reduce the damage caused to the public by "fluorine-containing chemicals". The charge was also backed by Michigan governor Gretchen Whitmer and the head of the environmental energy department (egle).


These charges mainly include: chemical companies deliberately conceal scientific evidence, recklessly sell, transport, supply, dispose of and use PFAS, causing serious damage to the environment of Michigan.


In response to the allegations, a DuPont spokesman said they were extremely disappointed by the justice minister's decision. Du Pont does not produce PFOA, PFOS or GenX. In addition, it never produces or sells fire foam. Other PFOS used by DuPont only account for a small part of the global PFOS and are actively seeking alternatives to PFAS.

A court document released recently by chemours, a company spun off from DuPont, shows that DuPont has used cruel methods to avoid the cost of cleaning up dangerous chemicals.






DuPont could have permanently stopped discharging PFAS from its Fayetteville plant to the Cape Fear River nine years ago, court documents said, but decided not to do so in order to force a spin off company to take responsibility.
