Once these problems are raised and the scope is reduced, the conformal coating can be selected. This is also a good time to call para coat technologies to address specific questions that may need to be answered. We have a group of people dedicated to helping you get the answers you need.

Types of conformal coatings conformal coatings

There are five main categories.

1. Polyurethane resin (UR)

A substance that can be one or two parts. The application period of single component is longer, but the curing time is longer, and the construction is easier; while the application period of two components is shorter, but the curing time is faster. Adding heat can speed up the curing process

Advantage

Wear resistance long curing time

Excellent moisture resistance, difficult to remove after complete curing

Short chemical service life

Solvent resistant soldering iron needs repairing

2. Acrylic resin (AR)

Usually one. These are probably the most common, easiest to remove and repair coatings. Acrylic dries quickly to achieve optimum performance in minutes rather than hours.

Advantage

Easy to apply low wear resistance

Easy to maintain low chemical resistance

Faster curing time in extreme environments

Poor resistance to fungi and low temperature environment

3. Epoxy resin (ER)

It may be the best protective performance of liquid conformal coating, but it is the most challenging to use. The coating tends to shrink during curing, which may lead to the need for other materials.

Advantages and disadvantages

Extremely difficult to remove

Shrinkage during UV curing

Very good in extreme environments local repair or rework can be challenging

Excellent wear resistance

4. Silicone (SR)

This is the most difficult coating to remove and has the lowest compatibility with all other coating types. There is no solvent to remove silicone, so it can only be removed by abrasion, which will leave silicone contamination on the surface of the circuit board. It is almost impossible to remove completely, so usually only local repairs are required.

Advantages and disadvantages:

Rework that has good adhesion to most surfaces and is difficult can

Not compatible with other coatings for long-term high temperature exposure

It can be used for vibration reduction and can only be removed mechanically

Good chemical / moisture / corrosion resistance
