1. Polysilazane is used in carbon material antioxidant
Carbon materials, such as graphite, carbon fiber, with low density, high performance, no creep, non-oxidizing environment resistant to ultra-high temperatures, good fatigue resistance, specific heat and electrical conductivity between non-metal and metal, small coefficient of thermal expansion, good corrosion resistance, etc., is an indispensable and important material in the field of high temperature resistance. However, the oxidation resistance of carbon materials is poor, and the phenomenon of weight loss and strength loss will occur when the temperature reaches 400 ℃ or more in the air environment.
For carbon fiber reinforced composites, when the oxidative weight loss rate reaches 2% to 5%, the mechanical properties decrease by 40% to 50%, which seriously limits its application. Therefore, it is crucial to improve the antioxidant properties of carbon fiber. The German researchers coated the polysilazane on carbon fiber filaments and cured the coating to form a coating under room temperature conditions. Through the isothermal weight loss assessment of the fibers in a muffle furnace, it was found that the coating can effectively improve the oxidation temperature of carbon fibers, so that the thermal stability of carbon fibers reached 750 ℃. They further coated the polysilazane on the carbon fiber roving and cured it at about 200 ℃, and found that the coating could also effectively improve the oxidation resistance and high temperature stability of the fiber.
2. Polysilazane for metal high temperature protection
High-temperature corrosion and oxidation resistance of metals has always been an important issue in industry and scientific research. SiO2 or SiCN formed by the transformation of polysilazane has excellent corrosion resistance, and due to the Si-N polarity in its structure, it is easy to combine with the metal substrate, and thus is a good material for high-temperature corrosion-resistant coatings. At present, there are commercialized high-temperature resistant coating materials using polysilazane as the main raw material, which are mainly used for exhaust pipes, pistons, heat exchangers, etc. of automobiles and trucks.
3. Polysilazane for high temperature hole sealing
Through inorganic sintering or plasma spraying methods to prepare ceramic parts or coatings, the material always has a certain porosity, which affects the material's airtightness, thus affecting its high temperature performance, so it is necessary to sealing treatment. Commonly used sealer is divided into organic sealer and inorganic sealer 2 kinds. Organic sealer is mostly organic resin, can only play a sealing role in low temperature, high temperature decomposition will lose effect. Inorganic adhesives are generally inorganic powders and organic adhesives, and their temperature resistance is higher than that of organic sealers, but when the temperature rises further and the adhesive decomposes, the voids between the inorganic nanoparticles cause a decrease in the sealing effect.M. R. Mucalo et al. used polysilazanes to coat alumina flakes, and formed Si3N4/Si2N2O coatings on the surface of the alumina after high temperature cracking and found that the alumina flakes are not as effective as those of the inorganic nanoparticles after high-temperature decomposition through the scanning electron microscope (SEM). Scanning electron microscope observation found that the density of alumina increased significantly, and the more the number of coatings, the higher the density.
4.Others
Due to the good temperature resistance of polysilazane, when adding appropriate fillers, the effect of high temperature insulation can be achieved. Such as adding hollow glass beads in polysilazane, spray coating on the surface of the composite material, after curing at 200 ℃, the composite material can play a good role in high temperature protection.
