Methyl silicone resin is a special resin dissolved in toluene with a high content of SiO2 (about 80% content under the solid resin content calculation [DSC]), making it an ideal adhesive for high-temperature environments of 300°C or more. Some tests have indicated that this resin, dissolved in toluene, has excellent properties and can be widely used in bonding processes in high-temperature environments.
1. Properties of Methyl Silicone Resin
Methyl silicone resin has many excellent chemical properties, such as
(1) It has good high-temperature resistance and can maintain stability in a high-temperature environment.
(2) Good corrosion resistance to acids, alkalis and other chemicals.
(3) Good weathering performance, able to maintain stability in outdoor environments for a long time.

Nevertheless, methyl silicone resin also has more intuitive shortcomings, such as, its production process is complex, resulting in higher costs; processing difficulty is high, easily lead to bubbles, cracks and other defects affecting product quality; at the same time, compared with some metal materials or it is slightly poor wear resistance.
2. Preparation and application of methyl silicone resin
In industrial production, usually choose in organic solvents for hydrolysis polycondensation reaction to prepare methyl silicone resin. Commonly used solvents include toluene, xylene, isopropyl alcohol, n-butanol and so on.
The specific operation method is to react methyltrichlorosilane with water in an organic solvent, and adjust the rate of the hydrolysis polycondensation reaction by controlling the reaction conditions, such as temperature, hydrochloric acid concentration, etc., in order to obtain soluble and fusible methylsilicone resin products. The reaction is usually carried out under more moderate conditions, such as hydrolysis in excess ice water or organic solvents, to obtain the desired product properties.

The product can be quickly cured into an insoluble and non-melting substance at room temperature, or its storage period can be extended by storing it at low temperature or formulating it into a solution.
