Application value of polysilazane in high temperature anticorrosive coatings

Polysilazane is a kind of organic inorganic hybrid polymer with Si-N as the repeated main chain, composed of silicon, nitrogen, carbon three elements, therefore, polysilazane has the chemical and oxidation stability of silicon, high temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, hydrophobicity, and nitrogen chemical inertness and hydrophobicity. Compared with most organic polymers, organic polysilazane OPSZ has stronger thermal stability, mechanical and chemical stability, as well as higher hardness and adhesion, oxidation resistance, corrosion resistance, insulation, flame retardant, heat insulation, wear resistance, hydrophobic and other characteristics, high temperature resistance can reach 1800℃ or more, 800-1000℃ high temperature will be converted into inorganic polysilazane PHPS. In situ, amorphous ceramic dense coatings such as Si-C-N are generated, and after 1400℃, some SiC and Si3N4 are formed. SiC is a common component of high temperature furnaces, and Si3N4 is often used in the production of gas turbine components, bearings, and cutting tools.
Polysilazane resin has good temperature resistance, when adding appropriate fillers, it can improve the effect of temperature insulation, and play a better role in high temperature protection of composite materials. Due to the polarity of Si-N in the structure of polysilazane, the NH- of polysilazane can react with the polar groups of the substrate, while the Si-NH-Si bond is easy to react with the -Oh on the surface of the substrate. After curing, the product forms a three-dimensional cross-linked structure, and the -OH of polysilazane is combined with the substrate in the form of covalent bond, resulting in a tight binding force with the substrate. The coating is integrated with the steel matrix to form a high-temperature anticorrosive coating with electrochemical protection and physical shielding. The hardness of the coating after curing can reach more than 8H, low hardness, more flexible. Therefore, it is a good high-temperature anti-corrosion coating material for high temperature protection such as metal. The steel coated with organic polysilazane resin coating has no corrosion after 2400 hours of condensation water weathering test. This special new material, polysilazane, has almost achieved the "collection" of high temperature anti-corrosion coating properties. At present, the commercial high temperature anti-corrosion coating materials using polysilazane as the main raw material are mainly used in the engines, exhaust pipes, pistons, heat exchangers and high temperature sealing, industrial high temperature furnaces, fire insulation materials, etc., for military and civilian dual-use cars and trucks.
