Vinyl resin, also known as vinyl polymer, vinyl ester resin, is a polymer compound made by polymerizing vinyl monomer. This resin has good corrosion resistance, chemical resistance, heat resistance and weather resistance, but also has excellent electrical insulation and processing properties, is internationally recognized as a highly corrosion-resistant resin.
1. Types of Vinyl Resins
(1) Bisphenol A general-purpose VER: It is synthesized from methacrylic acid and bisphenol A diglycidyl ether type epoxy resin through the ring-opening addition reaction of the solution dissolved in styrene solvent.
(2) Brominated Bisphenol A Vinyl Epoxy Resin: Generally synthesized by ring-opening of brominated Bisphenol A Epoxy Resin. Since the resin contains bromine, the flame-retardant Vinyl Epoxy Resin possesses the same chemical resistance as that of general-purpose Bisphenol A Vinyl Epoxy Resin, and at the same time, it also confers the resin with self-extinguishing property.
(3) phenolic epoxy vinyl ester resin: phenolic epoxy resin introduced into the skeleton of vinyl ester resin, synthetic epoxy vinyl ester resin is generally known as NOVOLAC-type epoxy vinyl ester resin, resin with high thermal stability, cured phenolic epoxy vinyl ester resin, high cross-linking density, good heat resistance, can extend the service life and excellent corrosion resistance, especially for chlorine solutions or organic solvents good corrosion resistance. (5) photosensitive vinyl resin: due to vinyl resin resin in the unsaturated double bond at the end of the molecular chain, high activity, while matching the molecular design, such as the use of high epoxy value of epoxy resin, the use of acrylic acid instead of methacrylic acid synthesized after the vinyl resin, the addition of photoinitiators (such as benzene quinone, benzene coupling ether, etc.) to absorb ultraviolet light energy, and transfer to the resin system, and make vinyl resin for the Polymerization curing.
(6) Flexible vinyl ester resin: in order to adapt to the needs of various anti-corrosion engineering construction, the emergence of flexible vinyl ester resin, flexible vinyl ester resin has a very high adhesion to steel and concrete surfaces, compared with the traditional epoxy vinyl ester resin, its elongation is higher, the adhesive strength is greatly improved, the impact strength is increased by nearly 4 times, the strength of the interlayer is increased by 20%, and has a unique abrasion resistance.
2. Preparation of vinyl resin
The preparation of vinyl resin is mainly realized through the polymerization reaction. In the polymerization process, vinyl monomer forms long chain molecules through addition reaction under the action of catalyst, and then forms polymer.
This process can be realized by different polymerization methods, such as free radical polymerization, ionic polymerization, coordination polymerization and so on.
3.Application of Vinyl Resin
(1) Coatings and paints: vinyl resin is one of the important components of coatings and paints. Due to its excellent corrosion resistance, chemical resistance and weather resistance, vinyl resin coatings are widely used in construction, automobile, ship and other fields.
(2) Adhesives: Vinyl resin adhesives have excellent bonding properties and temperature resistance, and are widely used for bonding of metals, plastics, rubber and other materials.
(3) Fiber-reinforced composites: vinyl resin is an important matrix material for manufacturing fiber-reinforced composites. By compounding with glass fiber, carbon fiber and other reinforcing materials, composites with advantages of high strength, high modulus and light weight can be prepared, which are widely used in aerospace, automotive, sports equipment and other fields.
(4) Electrical and electronic fields: vinyl resin has good electrical insulation and processing performance, is widely used in electrical and electronic fields, such as cable insulation, capacitors, switches and so on.
