Organosilicon modification refers to the introduction of organosilicon compounds into polymers or other materials to improve their properties. Compounding organosilicone resin with polyester resin can improve the performance of polyester resin. At present, the preparation of silicone-modified polyester resins are mainly physical modification method and chemical modification method.
1、physical modification
Physical modification refers to the combination of polyester resin and silicone resin through physical methods of blending. Generally include simple blending method and increase the third phase blending method.
(1) Simple blending method: this method is to mix the polyester resin and silicone resin directly, so that it is uniformly dispersed. Through simple mechanical mixing, the two resins are mixed with each other to form a mixture. This method is simple, easy and low-cost, but has high requirements for uniformity and stability, and requires adequate mixing and dispersion processes to ensure full contact and compatibility of the two resins. Due to the large difference between the two solubility parameters, resulting in poor compatibility, easy to overflow silicone resin, micro-phase separation phenomenon, affecting the performance of the coating film. At present, simple mixing is generally a small amount of silicone resin as an additive.
(2)Increase the third phase mixing method: increase the third phase mixing method refers to the mixing system, add a third substance as the intermediate phase, such as silane coupling agent, closed polyisocyanate, etc., in order to promote the compatibility of the two resins and mixing uniformity. This method can increase the compatibility of the two resins and improve the stability and homogeneity of the mixture by increasing the presence of the third phase. Common bulking agents include modified polymers, surfactants, etc. These components can form an interfacial layer between the two resins, thus promoting the interaction of the two resins.
These methods can improve the compatibility of polyester resins with silicone resins, improve the stability and homogeneity of the mixture, and thus improve the performance of the material. The advantages of physical modification are simple operation and low cost, but the mixing process and compatibility requirements are high.
2、Chemical modification
Mainly through the polycondensation reaction or copolymerization reaction, the end of the main chain of organosiloxane or side chain connected to the polyester resin, the formation of block, graft or interpenetrating network copolymer, with the help of chemical bonding to make the two polar polymers with a large difference in the method of combining together. According to the type of raw materials, chemical copolymerization method can be divided into monomer copolymerization modification method and macromolecule copolymerization modification method.
(1)Monomer copolymerization modification method is the silicone intermediate first with polyol reaction, and then with poly acid reaction, the preparation of silicone modified polyester resin method. For example, the silicone monomer and polyester monomer can be polymerized together, so that the silicone monomer unit and polyester monomer unit co-polymerized together to form silicone-modified polyester copolymer. This method can control the copolymerization reaction conditions, adjust the introduction of silicone monomer amount and position, so as to realize the modification of polyester resin.
(2)Macromolecule copolymerization modification method is a method to prepare organosilicone-modified polyester resin by the condensation reaction between SiOH or SiOR-containing silicone intermediates with low polymerization degree and hydroxyl-containing polyester resin. This method can realize the copolymerization of silicone resin and polyester resin at the molecular level of the polymer chain, so as to form an interpenetrating network structure or block structure and realize the combination of the two polymers.
