Silicone resin is one of the 4 major silicone materials, and has high temperature, weather and chemical resistance that is difficult to achieve with general organic resins. In recent years, research on silicone resins has been progressing quite rapidly, and some of the results have been applied in industry.
Silicone resin is Si-O-Si main chain, silicon atoms connected to organic groups on the crosslinked semi-inorganic polymers, by the multifunctionality of the organic silane by hydrolysis polycondensation and made in the presence of heat or catalysts can be further transformed into a three-dimensional structure of the insoluble and non-molten thermosetting resins. Although the market share of silicone resin is small compared with silicone oil, silicone rubber, silane coupling agent and other organosilicon compounds, it has an irreplaceable position in many fields, such as being used as impregnating varnish for H-class motor coils, high-temperature-resistant insulating varnish, high-temperature-resistant adhesive, as well as adhesive withering agent for mica boards and tapes, and so on.
Silicone resin has excellent heat resistance and weather resistance, excellent electrical insulation, chemical resistance, water resistance and flame retardancy, and can be modified to obtain other properties. Therefore, silicone resin-based electric insulating paints, coatings, molded plastics, laminating materials, release agents, moisture-proof wattle and other types of products, in the motor, electrical appliances, electronics, aviation, construction and other industrial sectors have been widely used.
