Silicone resin is typically synthesized using organochlorosilanes (such as methylchlorosilane or phenylchlorosilane) through hydrolysis and condensation reactions. The organic groups (e.g., methyl or phenyl) in these raw materials significantly influence the final properties of the silicone resin. For instance, a higher phenyl content often enhances heat resistance and radiation tolerance.
The most common preparation method is hydrolytic condensation. In this process, organochlorosilanes undergo hydrolysis to form silanols, which then condense to create silicone resins with specific molecular weights and cross-linked structures. Aerospace Industry: Due to its outstanding performance, silicone resin is used in critical aerospace applications, such as high-temperature and space-resistant protective coatings, and insulation for electronic systems, ensuring reliable operation in extreme environments.
