An important host factor related to HHV-6 invasion was found by the Hua Min team of Nanyi University

Recently, Professor Tang Huamin, Department of immunology, School of basic medicine, Nanjing Medical University, published a paper entitled "gp96 is critical for both HHV-6A and HHV-6B infection" in the Journal of Virology, which first reported that gp96 protein is an important host factor in the process of HHV-6A and HHV-6B infection.
Human herpesvirus 6 (HHV-6) is a double stranded DNA virus of T-lymphocyte. In 2012, the International Committee on Taxonomy of viruses (The International Committee on Taxonomy) ICTV divided the virus into two viruses, HHV-6A and HHV-6B, with a sequence similarity of over 90%. The primary infection of HHV-6 is the main cause of infant emergency (1). After the initial infection, it forms latent infection for life. The positive rate of HHV-6 in adult population is more than 90%. The reactivation of HHV-6 often causes severe diseases such as hepatitis and encephalitis (2). Recently, the relationship between HHV-6 and Alzheimer's disease has attracted more and more attention (3). Virus invasion is a complex process, which requires the participation of many host factors. The team discovered gp96 protein and HHV-6 by immunocoprecipitation and protein mass spectrometry The specific binding of GH / GL / gq1 / gq2 glycoprotein complex on the surface of virus, further study found that gp96 protein would redistribute and gather on the cell surface in the process of virus invasion; moreover, its expression abundance on the cell surface determines the efficiency of virus invasion, suggesting that the role of virus protein and host factor is a potential anti-virus infection target. Ma Jingjing (now a technician of children's Institute affiliated to Nanjing Medical University), Jia Junli, an experimenter and Professor Tang Huamin, a master of immunology from the school of basic medicine, Nanjing Medical University, are the co authors of the paper. In 2008, he graduated from Osaka University, and then worked in the medical basic disk Research Institute (Japan) and Kobe University (Japan). In 2015, he returned to China full-time and served as a professor of Immunology Department of Basic Medical School of Nanjing Medical University. The research direction is virus immunity, and many papers have been published in PNAS, J Virol and other magazines. In 2016, he was awarded the title of special professor of Jiangsu Province, and now he is the Deputy Secretary General of Jiangsu Institute of immunology.
