Urea Formaldehyde Resin (UF). It is made of urea and formaldehyde condensed into urea-formaldehyde resin under the action of catalyst, and then under the action of curing agent or additives, it forms urea-formaldehyde adhesive, which is a resin adhesive that is not fused and insoluble. It is the largest amount of adhesive used in the wood industry.
Urea-formaldehyde resin mixed with fillers, colorants, curing agents and plasticizers can be processed into urea-formaldehyde compression molding powder.
In addition, the color of cured urea-formaldehyde resin is lighter than phenolic resin, translucent, with good insulating properties and excellent abrasion resistance. At the same time, urea-formaldehyde resin is easy to color, and the products are rich in color.
1. Characteristics of urea-formaldehyde resin
(1)Good surface properties
It has excellent luster and leveling, and is often used to make high glossy coatings and lacquers.
(2)High hardness
It can be blended with phenolic resin and polyurethane resin to improve the hardness, and is used to make high hardness coatings and lacquers.
(3)Good corrosion resistance
Mixed with epoxy resin, it has good acid and alkali resistance and solvent resistance, and is used in heavy duty anticorrosive coatings.
(4) Strong adhesion
Mixed with amine silane or isocyanate and other cross-linking agents, it can improve adhesion, and is used in metal lamination and adhesive.
(5)Good chemical stability
Good stability, strong reaction stability with amino, hydroxyl and other functional groups, used in flame retardant coatings and electrical and electronic products.
(7)Good sulfate resistance
Mixture with polyurethane, strong resistance to sulfate erosion, used in industrial anti-corrosion coatings.
(8)Low price
Raw materials from a wide range of sources, the cost is low, the product price is lower than the polyurethane and other resins.
In addition to the above high-quality features, of course, urea-formaldehyde resin also has some shortcomings, such as poor weathering, poor initial adhesion, shrinkage, brittleness, not water-resistant, easy to aging. Artificial boards produced with urea-formaldehyde resins have the problem of formaldehyde release during manufacturing and use, so they must be modified.
Please note that although urea-formaldehyde resins have many excellent properties, they may exhibit deficiencies in specific environments. Therefore, when applying urea-formaldehyde resins, full consideration needs to be given to their applicability and possible limitations.
