Silicone resin is highly hydrophobic, so it can be used as a waterproof and moisture-proof coating, which is widely used in building waterproofing. Silicone architectural waterproofing coatings have excellent waterproofing, weatherproofing, anti-flaking and chemical resistance properties.
The waterproofing principle of organosilicon architectural waterproofing agent is different from that of general-purpose waterproofing materials such as organic coatings and asphalt. Organic coatings, asphalt is through the blocking of masonry and concrete structural materials to achieve the effect of waterproofing pores; while silicone building waterproofing agent is through a chemical reaction with the structural materials, the generation of a very thin film of insoluble hydrophobic resins on the surface of the substrate. Because the silicone building waterproofing agent does not block the pores of the building materials, so not only has the water repellency, but also to maintain the normal ventilation of the building, which is its greatest advantage. After the silicone building waterproofing agent treatment of the building, can keep clean, non-stick dust, improve the building's thermal insulation, acoustic performance, and to prevent cracking of the building surface, so that the building is not easy to weather, thus extending its service life.
Silicone building waterproof coating can be divided into water-soluble, solvent-based and emulsion type three types.
The main component of water-soluble organosilicon building waterproofing agent is sodium methyl silicate solution. It is with methyl trichlorosilane in a large amount of water hydrolysis, and then the resulting precipitate is filtered and washed with a large amount of water to get methyl silicic acid, and then mixed with an aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide, and heated at 90 ~ 95 ℃ for 2h, and then add water, filtration that is made of sodium methyl silicate solution.
When sodium methyl silicate meets water and carbon dioxide in the air, it will be hydrolyzed to generate methyl silicate, which will polymerize on the surface of the substrate very quickly to form a very thin layer of cross-linked polymethyl siloxane film with hydrophobicity. And concrete and masonry is essentially a silicate material, so methyl silicic acid and its surface silicon hydroxyl condensation, the formation of a more solid =SiO-Si= bond.
Sodium methyl silicate building waterproofing agent is generally sold at a concentration of 30%, the final use of the solution concentration depends on the application, generally can be diluted with water into a 3% solution.
The advantages of sodium methyl silicate building waterproofing agents are that they are inexpensive and easy to use. The disadvantage is that it reacts slowly with carbon dioxide and takes 24h to cure. Because the applied waterproofing agent is still water-soluble within a certain period of time, it is easy to be washed away by rain. In addition, sodium methyl silicate produces yellow rust spots on limestone and marble containing iron salts, so it cannot be used to treat these materials, and it cannot be used to further treat materials that already have water repellency. In these cases, only solvent-based silicone building waterproofing agent can be used.
Solvent-based silicone building water repellents are currently available in two types of products. The first is a solvent-based polymethyltriethoxysilane building waterproofing agent; the other is an acrylate-modified silicone building waterproofing agent.
Poly(methyltriethoxysilane) resin is a hydrolyzed condensation product of methyltriethoxysilane, neutral, must be added to the use of alcohol as a solvent. When applied to the surface of the substrate, the solvent evaporates quickly, so the pores in the masonry deposited on a layer of very thin film, the film is colorless and transparent, no luster, there is no viscosity. This silicone building waterproofing agent by the outside world is much smaller than sodium methyl silicate, thus applying a wider range of waterproofing effect is also better. Acrylate modified silicone building waterproofing agent is an acrylate-based main chain, and the side chain with silaneoxy or silicone hydroxyl macromolecules. This coating set of acrylic coatings and silicone coatings of the advantages of super weatherability, good adhesion of the coating, excellent water resistance, paint film full and other characteristics, and can be cured at room temperature.
There are also two types of emulsion-type building waterproofing agent, one is pure silicone resin, the other is acrylic modified silicone resin. Emulsion-type waterproofing agent is more environmentally friendly than solvent-based because it does not use or use a small amount of organic solvents.
