Although the internal compartments of a ship are not directly exposed to harsh marine environments like the outer panels, they also face many special protection requirements, such as moisture resistance, fire resistance, corrosion resistance, etc. Polysilazane coating, with its diverse performance advantages, has a wide and important application in the protection of ship interior compartments. The following will elaborate on its usage method and related precautions.
Usage
Surface pretreatment:
The internal compartments of ships have diverse structures, including surfaces made of different materials such as metal and composite materials. Before using a polysilazane coating, detailed surface pretreatment is required. For metal surfaces, such as steel beams, brackets, and other structural parts of cabins, rust removal treatment should be carried out first. Mechanical polishing can be used, and suitable electric polishing tools can be selected to gradually remove rust, oxide scale, etc. on the surface, ensuring that the surface is smooth and polished. Achieving a rust removal standard of St2 or above can meet the requirements of subsequent coating construction.
At the same time, it is necessary to remove oil and grease from the metal surface by using mild organic solvents or specialized metal degreasers. Through wiping, cleaning, and other operations, impurities such as oil and grease that may remain on the surface can be removed. This is because if oil and grease remain in the cabin, it is easy to adsorb dust, breed bacteria, and affect the adhesion of the coating, which is not conducive to long-term protection.
For the surface of composite materials, such as some decorative panels in the cabin, it is necessary to first check whether there is any damage or delamination on the surface. If there are any problems, they need to be repaired first. Then wipe the surface with a clean damp cloth to remove dust, stains, etc., ensuring that the surface is clean and tidy, and creating good conditions for the adhesion of the coating.
Coating preparation:
Considering the functional requirements of the internal compartments of the ship, it is necessary to choose polysilazane coating materials that focus on functional characteristics such as fire and moisture resistance. For example, for compartments storing flammable materials, high fire-resistant performance grade polysilazane coatings should be selected, which can effectively delay the spread of fire when encountering open flames and buy time for personnel evacuation and firefighting; For compartments that are prone to moisture, such as kitchens and bathrooms, priority should be given to products with excellent moisture resistance to prevent moisture infiltration and damage to the cabin structure and internal facilities.
When preparing the coating, accurately add the specialized diluent according to the proportion specified in the product manual, and use a stirring tool to stir at a moderate speed (generally controlled at 300-500 revolutions per minute) for no less than 15 minutes to ensure that the coating material and diluent are thoroughly mixed and uniform. The viscosity of the mixed coating should be adjusted according to the specific construction method and the surface condition of the cabin, usually controlled at around 20-30 seconds (coating -4 cups) for smooth coating in the future.
Coating construction:
In the coating construction of internal compartments of ships, a combination of multiple coating methods will be used according to different parts and area sizes. For large areas such as cabin wall panels and ceilings, spraying is commonly used for construction. If air spraying is used, adjust the pressure of the air compressor to 0.4-0.6MPa, load the prepared polysilazane coating into the spray gun container, keep the distance between the spray gun and the coated surface at about 15-20 centimeters, and move the spray gun at a uniform speed for spraying, so that the coating is evenly covered on the surface. The thickness of each layer of coating is controlled at 15-20 μ m. According to the protection requirements, generally 2-3 layers can be sprayed.
For complex structural parts such as corners and pipelines of cabins, as well as some small facility surfaces, brushing is more suitable. Choose a brush with good quality, soft bristles, and no shedding. Dip an appropriate amount of polysilazane coating into it and carefully and evenly apply it along the texture direction of the structure or the outline of the facility to ensure that the coating can fully cover these areas and avoid omissions or uneven coating thickness. At the same time, it is important to ensure that the thickness of the coating applied by the brush is as consistent as possible with the adjacent spraying area, in order to guarantee the overall integrity of the coating and the uniformity of the protective effect inside the entire cabin.
Curing treatment:
The curing treatment of the polysilazane coating in the interior compartments of ships can be carried out by natural curing when natural environmental conditions permit, that is, when the temperature is between 15-30 ℃ and the relative humidity is between 40% and 70%. Let the coated layer dry naturally in a well ventilated compartment, which may take several hours to several days depending on the thickness of the coating and product characteristics. During this period, it is necessary to ensure smooth ventilation inside the cabin, prevent the accumulation of harmful gases, and avoid contamination of the coating surface by dust and other impurities.
For some special compartments that require high protection performance, such as key parts such as distribution rooms, heating and curing methods can also be used. Place the coated parts in a constant temperature oven or use heating equipment such as a hot air blower to heat them up. Heat them up according to the specified heating curve, with a heating rate controlled at 5-10 ℃/min, gradually increasing the temperature to 150-200 ℃, and maintaining it at this temperature for 1-2 hours to fully crosslink and cure the coating, enhance its moisture resistance, fire resistance, and corrosion resistance, and provide more reliable protection for the facilities and environment inside the cabin.
