In terms of safety
Non toxic and harmless: It is necessary to ensure that the silicone resin raw materials used and various additives added during processing are non-toxic and will not remove harmful substances such as heavy metals (mercury, lead, cadmium, chromium, etc.) and toxic organic compounds (such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, formaldehyde, etc.) into food, avoiding harm to human health. This is the most basic and critical requirement.
Compliance with relevant standards for food contact materials: It is necessary to strictly follow the hygiene standards for food contact materials formulated by various countries and regions, such as the relevant directives of the European Union, the regulations of the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and China's GB 4806 series standards. Only silicone resin coating materials that have passed relevant certifications and meet corresponding standards are qualified for application in food contact scenarios.
Stability aspect
Good thermal stability: Food grade silicone resin coatings may face different temperature environments during food processing, cooking, storage, etc., such as high temperature baking, low temperature freezing, etc. Food grade silicone resin coatings need to have good thermal stability, be able to maintain their chemical structure stability over a wide temperature range, and not decompose or denature due to temperature changes, thereby affecting the protection and other properties of the coating.
Strong chemical stability: Food itself contains various components, such as oils, acidic substances (such as fruit acids), alkaline substances (some noodle making may involve alkali), etc. The coating material should be able to withstand the erosion of these chemicals and not undergo chemical reactions with them, causing coating peeling, dissolution, or odor that affects food quality and safety.
In terms of physical performance
Good adhesion: The coating needs to firmly adhere to the food contact surface being coated (such as baking trays, food molds, etc.) to avoid peeling, flaking, and other phenomena during use. Otherwise, it will not only affect the service life of the coating, but may also mix the peeled coating fragments into the food, posing a safety hazard.
Suitable hardness and wear resistance: It is necessary to have a certain hardness to resist scratches and wear in daily use, ensure the integrity of the coating, but it should not be too hard to avoid brittle cracking and other situations during use. For example, the silicone coating on the surface of the baking tray should be able to withstand frequent food handling, kitchenware scraping, and other operations without being easily damaged.
Low surface energy and non adhesiveness: Food grade silicone resin coatings are typically expected to have low surface energy, so that food is less likely to adhere to the coating surface, making it easier to demold and remove the food. When baking cakes or bread, it can easily detach from the mold, reducing food damage and facilitating subsequent cleaning.
